Stainless Steel Glass Balustrade Systems

Every post and handrail in our range is made from SS316 stainless steel, the marine grade chosen for outdoor and coastal use because it resists corrosion far better than standard 304 steel. Posts and handrails use a substantial 42.4mm diameter tube with a 2.0mm wall, finished in satin for a modern look that hides fingerprints and water marks better than polished steel.

The glass is 10mm toughened safety glass with flat polished edges and safety corners, so panels are smooth to handle during installation and safe once fitted. Toughened glass is several times stronger than standard glass of the same thickness. If it does break, it shatters into small blunt pieces rather than sharp shards.

Glass Balustrade with Handrail

Glass panels sit between satin stainless posts, finished with a continuous 42.4mm top handrail. The handrail gives a comfortable grab rail and ties the whole run together. It is the system we recommend for balconies, raised terraces, stairs and anywhere with a significant drop.

Glass Balustrade without Handrail

This uses the same posts and 10mm glass, with post caps instead of a top rail, for a cleaner, more open view. It suits patios, garden terraces, pool surrounds and low-level decking where you want to define an edge without adding visual weight.

Both systems are available as complete kits or as individual components, so you can extend an existing run or replace a single part.

Toughened Glass Panels

Our 10mm toughened glass panels come in two widths, 900mm and 1000mm, and in heights from 300mm to 1200mm. That covers everything from low planter-edge screens to full-height balcony balustrades. All panels have polished edges and safety corners as standard.

How Much Glass Balustrade Do I Need?

Measure the full length of each run and note any corners, walls and changes in level. Your run will need an end post at each open end, a corner post at each turn and middle posts between panels. Choose panel widths that fill the run as closely as possible. If your measurements don’t divide neatly, send them to us and we’ll work out the most efficient layout and provide a free CAD drawing.

Glass Balustrade Height and Building Regulations

In England, guarding requirements are set out in Approved Document K, and barrier design is covered by BS 6180. As a general guide for homes, guarding is usually required where there is a drop of more than 600mm. Recommended minimum heights are typically 900mm for internal stairs and landings and 1100mm for external balconies and roof edges.
