No 222 Driveway Gate – Top Pattern

Anyone with a love of trees will appreciate the subtle beauty of the No 222 driveway gate, because the further back you stand, the more it takes on the appearance of a winter forest. The ideal gate for dendrophiles, this mini arboretum provides plenty of cover for your drive and your home. In the Top arrangement the lower section of each leaf is left solid and the pattern sits across the top of the gate, giving you more privacy and a heavier, more traditional silhouette.

Our Driveway Gates

Our driveway gates bring the designs from the largest collection of garden screens in the UK to the front of your home. Every gate is fabricated from steel in the UK, galvanised for lifelong rust protection and finished in your choice of six powder-coated colours, with 15 patterns, two pattern arrangements and heights from 3ft to 6ft. Enter your opening width and the price is calculated instantly.

Vertical or Top pattern?

Every design is available in two arrangements. Vertical runs the pattern the full height of the gate for a lighter, more open look, while Top keeps the lower section solid with the pattern across the top, giving more privacy and a heavier, more traditional silhouette. Both are priced the same, so choose whichever suits your home. If you already have sound brick pillars the gate can hang directly from them; otherwise choose bolt-down or concreted-in posts and we'll supply them to match.

Made to measure driveway gates

How to measure for your gate

Every gate is cut to your opening. Choose how your gate will be fixed, then take the measurement that matches. It takes two minutes with a tape measure.

1

Choose your installation type

Existing walls, pillars or posts

Your gate hangs from what is already there. We supply hinge plates to fix to your posts or pillars.

We needInside-to-inside measurements

Above ground (base plate)

New posts bolted down to a solid surface such as concrete, paving or a stone base.

We needComplete opening measurements

Below ground (concreted in)

New posts set into the ground and concreted in place for a permanent, solid fix.

A
Measure the gap between the inside faces of your two posts or pillars at three points: top, middle and bottom.
B
Posts are rarely perfectly parallel, so the three widths may differ slightly. That is normal.
C
Send us the smallest of the three. We size your gate and hinge gap from this figure.

Do not deduct anything for the posts. Your new posts are included in this measurement and we allow for them when we make your gate.

Measure in millimetres

A steel tape measure gives the most accurate reading. Write each width down as you go.

Always take three widths

Top, middle and bottom. Only the smallest matters, but the other two tell us if anything is out of square.

Not sure which applies?

Send us a photo of the opening with your measurements and we will check it before anything is made.

Included with every gate

Locked as standard

Every driveway gate leaves us with a Locinox Fiftyset fitted, tested and ready to use. Nothing to source, nothing to fit.

The Fiftyset is an insert lock: the mechanism sits inside the 50 mm frame of the gate rather than in a box bolted to the face, so the leaf stays clean on both sides. Turn the handle and the daybolt latches automatically as the gate swings shut. Turn the key and the stainless steel hook bolt throws into the keep, pulling the leaf tight so it cannot be lifted or prised.

  • Self-latching daybolt closes the gate behind you without the key
  • Key-operated hook bolt anchors the leaf into the keep on both sides
  • Adjustable keep keeps the lock aligned if the gate settles over time
  • Standard Europrofile cylinder, so it can be keyed alike to your house or upgraded later
  • Cover shields keep grit and rain out of the mechanism

500 mm galvanised drop bar

Add a 500 mm drop bar

A galvanised steel drop bar welded to the second leaf of a double gate. Drop it into the ground socket and the passive leaf is pinned solid, giving the lock a fixed edge to close against and stopping the gate blowing open in wind. Choose it from the options above the price.

Frequently asked questions

Our driveway gates are fabricated from steel and then hot-dip galvanised, including every cut edge of the pattern, so there is no exposed metal to rust. They are then powder coated in your chosen colour. Everything is made in the UK for the UK climate and, once fitted, needs no painting or sealing.

Measure the clear opening between your pillars, walls or where the posts will go, in millimetres. Take the measurement at the top, middle and bottom and enter the smallest of the three. If you're having posts supplied, measure the full width you want the gate and posts to fill. We allow for the hinge and centre gaps, so you only need to give us the overall opening.

Gates are available in four heights (3ft, 4ft, 5ft and 6ft) and are made to any width from 1800mm up to 7500mm. Openings over 6000mm carry an additional charge for the heavier construction required. If you need something outside this range, contact us about a bespoke gate.

All our driveway gates are supplied as a pair of leaves that meet in the centre. A drop bolt is available as an option to hold the fixed leaf in place when the gate is closed. If you need a single-leaf gate for a side entrance or path, see our pedestrian gates.

Six powder-coated finishes are available: Anthracite Grey RAL 7016, Black RAL 9005, Chocolate Brown RAL 8017, Cream RAL 9001, Grey RAL 7037 and White RAL 9003. The finish is applied in the factory over the galvanised steel, so there is nothing to paint when the gate arrives, now or in the future.

Every gate comes with hinges and a stainless steel Locinox lock and handle set as standard, available in a black or silver finish to match your gate. Two keys are supplied. A drop bolt can be added as an option.

If you have brick pillars or walls that are structurally sound, the gate can be hung directly from them; choose Existing walls/pillars when ordering. If you don't, choose one of our post options: Above ground posts bolt down onto a concrete base with a base plate, and Below ground posts are concreted into the ground for a new installation.

This only applies when you order posts. Inner mounting hangs the gate between the posts. Rear mounting hangs the gate behind the posts, which leaves a smaller gap between the post and the edge of each leaf and gives a cleaner line when viewed from the front.

Yes, our steel gates are suitable for automation. Please contact us before ordering with the details of the automation kit you intend to use, and we will make any arrangements needed to the frame so the motors can be fitted. We do not supply automation kits ourselves.

All our gates are made to order in the UK. The current lead time is 3 to 6 weeks from order to delivery, and we'll confirm a delivery date once your gate is in production. Please see the checkout and delivery page for up-to-date time frames.

Yes, if you're a competent DIYer. The leaves are steel and heavy, so you will definitely need a helping hand to lift and hang them. Gates hung from existing pillars or above-ground posts can be fitted in a day; below-ground posts need to be set in concrete and left to cure before the gate is hung. We recommend a professional installer for automated gates.

Yes. We can make gates in custom sizes, in any of our 250+ screen designs, or with your own artwork, house name or number cut into the panel. There is an additional charge for design and set-up. Please email info@luxuryscreens.co.uk to discuss.
